The car was originally ordered and purchased new from Porsche Motorsport by Joel Reiser of Mendon, NY. The RSR was delivered to Reiser at Chicago O'Hare International Airport at the Lufthansa Air Freight Terminal in early January of 1998. During 1998 the car was run extensively in test events, including the Porsche Club of America (PCA) Club Race at Mosport in the summer of that year where the car achieved 2nd in class.
Following this success, the car was sent to Tony Callas in California for preparation for the gruelling 24 Hours of Daytona. Testing at Daytona was successful, and drivers David Murray (US), Johnny Mowlem (GB), Grady Willingham (US), and owner Reiser (US) entered the car for the 24 Hours. Murray and Mowlem, the two professional drivers, got most of the testing time for car setup. Reiser and Willingham needed more testing, purchased a Red backup car, and tested at the Texas World Speedway with it. By race time the work paid off, as the team finished 2nd in class out of approximately 40 cars, and 9th overall, out of approximately 80 cars. During the race debris from an LMP car it the Porsche and removed the Driver's side mirror, during the next pit stop a mirror was taken from the red backup car and placed on the car. The team liked the way this looked so much that when the race finished they took both mirrors and all the lower bodywork from the red car and placed them on the lead car for the victory parade the next morning.
After the race lead driver David Murray requested both the main and back-up car be converted to wide body cars like the Daytona-class-winning car from Alex Job Racing. This allowed the team to remove significant portions of steel from the corners of the bodywork and replace it with fibreglass which provided significant weight savings.
Select racing results following the Daytona 24 Hours include; 1st in the GT3 Class (6th OA) at the 1999 USRRC Mid-Ohio and 1st in the GT Class (15th OA) at the 1999 American Le Mans Laguna Seca.
The car sits today with a 993 RSR engine (0 Hours) by Automobile Associates Canton CT with new custom pistons by CP (Carrillo Industries), new Pauter rods and new "Nickies" Cylinders by LN Engineering. The transmission is a 993 GT2 (4 Hours) by Reiser Technik LLC, short gears, guard diff, 8:33 Ricardo R&P, hollow shafts and oil cooling. Finally, the ECU is a Motec M48 Pro with Lambda and Logging.
